Mommy's First Day without Daddy

Andrew went back to work today and I was left watching Olive on my own. I have to admit I was a little nervous since Andrew has been a big help these past 6 weeks.  We tried to sleep in but little Olive wouldn't close her eyes.  Look at those lashes!  She definitely takes after mommy.

Getting ready was a little difficult.  I didn't know what to do since Olive wouldn't go to sleep.  I decided to put her in the bathroom while I took a shower.  I think she was a little confused by the new surroundings, but hopefully she'll get used to it.  I've gotten in the habit of taking long showers, but this morning was a little different.  I was in there for all of about 3 minutes.  I shouldn't complain because it's better than not being able to shower at all!

After the shower I got Olive ready and fed her.  Right before we had to leave for my doctors appointment she fell asleep on the couch. Unfortunately I woke her up while trying to get her in her car seat.  She was not a happy camper.  The quiet-maker wouldn't even console her. Thankfully as I started to drive, she stopped crying.  I only had to stop once to make sure she was still breathing!

I left super early so we could park and take a nice, long walk to the doctors office.  The doctor said everything looked great and I could take a bath again and exercise.  Obviously the doctor doesn't know me very well - I HATE to exercise.

After my appointment we visited daddy at his office.  All the girls were very excited to meet Olive and thought she was gorgeous.  Of course everyone thinks she looks like Andrew!  I can't believe there isn't any of me in her features!!  I guess only time will tell.

After visiting daddy, we headed home for a little rest.  I think our busy day wiped Olive out!

Mommy's First Christmas Purchase

I've never really been one to decorate or go all out for the Christmas holiday. I'm usually up north and since my mom decorates like a crazy person - I don't have to!  Now that we have little Olive, times are changing.  I found the cutest stockings at Pottery Barn Kids and had to get one for each of us.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yesterday we picked up great Aunt Joan at the airport and drove to Camarillo to celebrate Thanksgiving.  I have to admit that I was worried I would miss all of my moms favorite food items.  Her stuffing, string beans, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie are to die for.

Lets just say I wasn't disappointed!  The food was delicious.  I even went back for seconds on the stuffing!  And although the pumpkin pie was different from my moms - it was soooooo good!  It had both pumpkin AND sweet potato in it!

Of course everyone was excited to see little Olive and took turns holding her.  Grandpa Dan was first.

Then Grandma Carolyn.

Then great Aunt Joan.

Then Auntie Lindsay.

Then, of course, Daddy had to hold her during dinner.  She didn't want to be left out of our Thanksgiving feast!

Tummy Time

At our last doctors visit it was recommended that we do "tummy time" with Olive.  Apparently it helps strengthen neck muscles to prepare for crawling.  It also helps babies get ready to push up, roll over, sit up, and eventually stand.  Needless to say, I wanted to start this ASAP.

Grandma Rufer bought a playmat so we could put it on top of our concrete floors.  Today was the first day we tried it.  I think Olive likes it!

Olive Loves to Smile/Vomit

Olive has definitely been smiling a lot more in the last few days and it melts my heart every time!  This was 10 minutes before she projectile vomited all over herself and mommy.

Tuesday Morning 10am

No words can describe how this made me feel.  I absolutely love little Olive to pieces.

Olive Goes on a Road Trip

Saturday morning we loaded up the car and drove to Gustine for an early Thanksgiving with Nana and Papa.  Of course, everyone couldn't wait to meet little Olive, especially Aunt Marsha!!  Look how much Olive loves her already.  Awww...

The girls couldn't wait to hold her - Alison had been talking about it for weeks!  Olive looked right up at her and smiled the biggest smile.

Olive was sooooo good the entire time.  She let everyone hold her and hardly made a peep!  The entire family adores her just like mommy and daddy.

Zack came in from Alaska and everyone was happy to see him, including Emma.

I was excited to see my nieces who I hadn't seen since I was pregnant. They are adorable and I know that Olive will love them just as much as I do!

Olive's First Horse Show

Friday we headed over to the valley to watch Karrie ride her horses.  Of course her barn was littered with 3 dozen blue ribbons - all of which she won.  The above photo was taken from the class that we saw, which of course, she got show champion.  What can I say, my baby sister is a stud.

It was freezing outside so Andrew held Olive super tight.  We also bundled her up with about 5 blankets.  Olive loves her auntie Karrie and can't wait to ride one of her horseys.

My New Favorite Thing

Grandma Carolyn bought the Ergo Baby Carrier for Andrew's birthday this year.  I sort of forgot we had it until I saw the box in the closet.  Since we were going to see my sister ride her horses today, I thought it would be the perfect thing to carry Olive in.  Boy was I right - I love it!  Its easy AND it looks super cute.  I can't wait to wear it around the house.

Newborn? No More

The day has finally come - Olive no longer fits into her newborn clothes. Our little girl is growing up!   We had a doctors appointment on Thursday and she weighs a whopping 9 lbs 14 oz - almost 10 pounds. The doctor also said that she was ahead of schedule as far as her development. She was following his face with her eyes and holding her head up with no problems.  Apparently our little girl is very advanced - just like her daddy.

The 7 Faces of Olive Cahn

Like I said, Olive loves her changing table........

I mean, who could resist that face?

Olive's Home Away from Home

For some reason Olive finds comfort on her changing table.  Whenever she is fussy we lay her on it and she quiets right down.  In fact, she seems pretty taken with her entire room!

Here she is in her crib.  She loves the mirror daddy put up.  I think she thinks it is another baby when she sees her reflection.  I can already tell she will be a real people person!

* (Andrew footnote: Although Olive is, no doubt, as smart as Kim thinks she is - she also stares just as intently at the white wall)

Il Cielo x 2

My stepdad thought it would be nice to go back to the restaurant where my contractions started - Il Cielo.  So the entire family (unfortunately not Ross, Ida, and the girls) had dinner there last night.  The maitre de remembered us and couldn't believe that I was actually in labor the last time we were there!  Of course he thought Olive was gorgeous and was very happy for us.

It was good to finally see Karrie, who is in town for a big horse show.  She is coming over on Tuesday as well and we are going to go to my favorite sushi spot.

I have to admit, it is so nice to get out of the house and do the things we did before we had Olive.  We even brought her with us!

She was on her best behavior and slept the entire 3 hours we were there! She is such a good baby.

Olive Meets Auntie Karrie

Auntie Karrie was in town for a big horse show and came by to see her gorgeous niece on Sunday.  She isn't exactly a baby person, but she was a trooper and held Olive for about 3 minutes.

Here is where things got a little tricky.  Not sure Kare-bear is used to a crying baby.  My mom swooped in and took Olive about 5 seconds after I took this picture.

Olive Harper Cahn - 4 Weeks

It's hard to believe that Olive is a month old already.  Time is flying by so quickly and she is getting so big.  Her newborn clothes are getting a little too tight.  Pretty soon I'll have to start putting her in her 3 month old outfits!

Mommy & Daddy Hit the Town!

Friday morning Grandma Carolyn came over to babysit while mommy and daddy went to lunch and a movie at our favorite place - Century City Mall. Its obvious that Olive loves both her grandmas, so neither Andrew or I are nervous to leave her with them for a few hours.  Thank goodness because it is sooooo nice to get out of the house!!!

We hit up Obika for lunch and then went and saw Morning Glory.  Andrew and I both liked the movie although he thought towards the end it got a little unbelievable.  Leaving the mall, we passed a Baby Gap and, of course, I couldn't resist a little peek.  I walked out with 2 dresses, 2 pair of tights, and the cutest red jacket!  I just can't help myself when it comes to Olive.  The dresses were only $5.99 and $7.99, so who could resist?

Saturday afternoon Grandma Rufer came over to babysit while mommy had lunch with Lotus at Bouchon.

Its not the same as our old girls saturday where we would spend all day together, but I'll take anything I can get!  We even had a good celeb sighting - Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, and their gorgeous little boys.

After lunch, Auntie Christine came over to see Olive before our dinner. We wanted to try this new place called A-Frame.  Believe it or not, it was completely packed at 5:30pm!  Who eats that early???  It was good, but a little greasy.  Andrew, Christine, and I were all a bit queasy after.

It was so nice of both grandmas to come over and watch Olive so that mommy and daddy could get some alone time.  Thank goodness for grandmas!
