Labor Flashback

Andrew and I were cleaning the house this morning and found this fan that we bought for labor.  Let's just say this - today was the first time it had been turned on.  At least for the next baby we will know exactly what items we need.  A fan isn't one of them.

Email Posting

according to the internet, it's google's fault the ipad won't post to blogger. the only work around i could find is to email-post to the blog.

so this is a test of that. enjoy.

as a bonus, please enjoy this photo of 30 min old olive -

Early Birthday

My iPad 2 came in the mail the other day and it is AWESOME.  You can watch tv, take pictures, facetime, as well as a slew of other cool things. Unfortunately, the one thing I wanted to use it for - you can't do.  For some reason it doesn't support my blog application.  I mean....really?  I can get on the site and even write some witty one liners.  I can't, however, upload photos.  A blog with no photos?  Shame on you iPad 2.  Shame on you.

Regardless of its one minor flaw, I posted these photos we took on it today.  Thanks mom for the best birthday present ever!

My Baby is Back!

For the past 2 nights Olive has slept a solid 8 hours straight!  I had forgotten what it feels like since she has had a rough go of it with her teeth coming in.

One thing is for sure - I feel greeeeeeaaaat!

Mommy's in the Park

This afternoon we met Olga and Sabrina at the Counter for lunch.  After lunch we walked over to the park for the Santa Monica Mommies get together.  We layed our blankets on the grass and soaked in the gorgeous sunshine.

Olive even got to go on the swings with Sabrina.  It was our first time and I think she really liked it!  I can't wait until she gets a little bigger and I can push her higher and higher!

New and Improved Videos

Currently the videos I upload to this blog look like utter crap.  Andrew and I are trying to find a way to make them look much better.  Cross your fingers it works!

Olive Loves her Jumperoo

I think this video speaks for itself.

(hopefully this is a much better quality than the original upload)

Moving On Up

Today was our first day in Gymboree - Level 2.  It was obvious that Olive was outgrowing our Level 1 class so our teacher, Natalie, told us we should move up.  I'm so glad we did because it was soooo much fun!  We still sing a lot of songs, but there are more activities for the little ones.  We got to kick a ball back and forth, dance around, and use the different equipment in the room.

Thankfully bubble time is still a part of the repertoire.  Olive loves it - as you can see from the pictures.

Aww...look at Hayden and Olive.  Soooo cute.

Olive's Biggest Fan

I never really know if anyone is reading this blog.  I'd like to think that my friends and family love it and can't get enough.  But in the grand scheme of things - do people really have the time to read my blog every day? Probably not.  Although every once in awhile, someone will tell me how much they enjoy it.  And no one loves it more than my Aunt Marcia.  She checks the blog daily and gets such a kick out of it.  Thank you Aunt Marcia for being Olive's biggest fan!  You are one of the main reasons we keep posting!

(Even though Aunt Marcia held Olive for most of our Easter trip - I didn't get one picture.  This one is from Thanksgiving last year.  Look how tiny Olive was!)

Easter with the Oliveira's

Saturday morning we got up early to drive to Gustine to spend Easter with the Oliveira's.  Even though it was early, we still only managed to leave the house a little before 11am!  We were originally planning on flying to Sacramento and spending the holiday with my Aunt Sharon's family in Petaluma.  Unfortunately my Uncle Joe got sick and they had to cancel. We decided we would still make the trip and spend it at Nana and Papas.  I'm not going to lie - it was a looooooong drive that we probably won't be doing again.  It is so much easier to fly.  Although it was definitely worth it to see everyone.

Believe it or not - this is the only picture I took the entire weekend.  We had pizza at Perry's on Saturday night with Nana, Papa, Aunt Marcia, and Uncle Mike.  Then Sunday morning - an Easter Egg hunt with Alison and Emma.  Then a delicious meal before we had to get back on the road. Aunt Marcia's macaroni salad was to die for.  Sooooooo delish.  I need to get that recipe so I can make it for all our pool parties this summer!

Cute Outfit of the Week

Grandma Rufer got a few things for Olive from Baby Gap last week.  I put this on Olive thinking it would be too big for her since it was 6-12 months. Nope - it fit.  Our baby is getting so big!

Mommy's Just as Good as Daddy

In all of our purchases for Olive, daddy has had one role - to put them together.  Well today when her new Jumperoo arrived he was no where to be found.  I couldn't wait for him to get home from work and figured I could do anything he could do.

It actually wasn't as hard as I thought.  It took about 30 minutes with Olive watching me intently the entire time.  I think she was transfixed with all the different parts.

I think she likes it!  Thank you grandma Rufer for the awesome new toy!

O-L-I-V-E

Long before Olive was born my mom bought her the cutest little vintage letters to put above her closet.  Unfortunately they aren't the easiest things to install.  Our handyman Polo was going to drill a hole in each letter but was worried they would crack.  Or worse - be uneven on the wall.  I put the letters away until I could figure out what else to do with them.  A few weeks ago Andrew saw these letters in the Land of Nod catalog.  It was weird because Andrew NEVER looks through the catalogs I get.  In fact, he normally throws them away!  In any case we both fell in love with these fabric letters and the best part?  They have a built in hardware to hang them on the wall!

Sorry Gramma Rufer but we will just have to find another use for the gorgeous letters you got.  I'm thinking when Olive is about 3 or 4 and wants her name on her door.  I figure we can make an art project out of it.

Pearly Whites 2

Just in case you couldn't see her pearly whites - here is a close up. Believe me - they are as sharp as they look.

Pearly Whites

Do you see what I see?

Olive's New Buddy

Today we met Hayden and his mommy Cheryl at the Westside Pavillion for our Gymboree class.

Hayden already has his two little front teeth and looks so cute with them. I can't wait for Olive's to come out completely.  They are almost there - in a week or so we should be able to see them!

I was playing with different Retro camera settings with all of these pictures.  I think I like my Hipstamatic the best.

Olive's 6 Month Checkup

Today was Olive's 6 month check up which meant her last round of immunizations till she is a year old.  Of course I was nervous about her getting shots because she has been in pain with her little teeth coming in.

Before the shots, Olive got weighed, measured, and checked out.  She weighed in at 16 pounds 7 ounces and measured 25 3/4" long.  And more importantly, the doctor said everything looked perfect.

Next came the shots.  Daddy held her since he has an air of calm about him while I blew in her face and tried to make her laugh.  The first shot was easy as 1-2-3.  The second shot, however, elicited more than a few seconds of crying.  A couple seconds later and our baby was all smiles again.

Cute Outfit of the Week

Our friend, Anne Oburgh, made this cute little onesie for Olive.  Now that it fits her she will be wearing it a lot.  It is perfect for the warm weather we have been having lately!

Yoga Pose

When Olive is on her back she loves to push her butt and back off the ground, in what I like to call a "yoga pose".

And for the record - she wasn't pointing in this direction when I put her in the crib.

Olive Harper Cahn - 26 Weeks

I can't believe my baby is 6 months old today.  I remember my first contraction like it was yesterday.  Every day she fills my life with so much love and happiness.

The Cahn's Get a Houseguest

We got a cute new house guest on Friday morning.  Todd and his girlfriend Liz had to fly to San Francisco and needed someone to watch their adorable dog, Bailey.  Since Todd always helps us out when we need it, how could I refuse?

Bailey seems to love licking Olive's feet and forehead.  I'm not sure if Olive knows what to think of her. But every time she hears her little collar tinkle - she gets a huge smile.  Maybe when Olive is old enough to ask for a dog - we will get one.

Because they are still working on the roof (believe me....I'm OVER it), we put a blanket outside and enjoyed the 80 degree weather.

Girls Night Out

Last night I had dinner with Lotus at Red Medicine.  I hadn't seen her in over a month and we had both been dying to try the restaurant.  It got a lot of press for outing the anonymous Los Angeles Times food critic, Irene Virbila.  Apparently she came into the restaurant with a big group of people and the owner, Noah Ellis refused to seat or serve her.  He then posted her picture so that all restaurant owners would have the right to refuse service to her if they wanted.

In any case the food was delicious, but the company even better.  We ordered the lemongrass pote de creme for dessert and looking at it, I wasn't quite sure what it consisted of.  And worse?  After eating it - I still couldn't tell you.
