Yosemite

Last week I had plans to fly out to Sacramento with Buster so that we could spend a few days in Yosemite with my family. Unfortunately things did not go as planned and I ended up missing my flight on Saturday night. I could blame it on any number of things but the fact of the matter is: I didn't give myself enough time. I didn't sleep at all that night and got on an early flight the next morning. It was a bit of a disaster but thankfully Buster was an angel on the plane.

Saturday morning we had a delicious breakfast then went on a short hike to the Nature Center. As you can see - we all had a great time! Unfortunately, I ended up missing the big dinner that night. Buster was fussy and Olive fell asleep - so I was stuck in my room. I even woke Olive up to try and make it for half the meal - but she was not having any of it. She wanted to stay in the room in her princess dress.

Yosemite was gorgeous - I only wish I would have enjoyed it more. In the back of my mind I was hoping that Andrew would somehow make it up - even though he was busy working in Detroit. It was difficult enough traveling with a 6 week old. Not having my amazing husband there to help was even ten times more difficult!

The next morning was much of the same - Buster fussing and me just feeling overwhelmed and over it. Lets just say that I had a major melt down right before we left. I think I've learned my lesson: No traveling with a newborn. Especially if hubby isn't able to come!

On the bright side - at least the pictures tell a different story..........

Butterflies

Before Buster was born, we decided to buy Olive a bunch of gifts and tell her they were from him when we brought him home from the hospital. Considering she kept talking about "hitting Buster" - we figured it was the best way to get her to LOVE her new baby brother. One of those gifts was a butterfly hatching kit. She was so excited when we sent away for the caterpillars that she asked the mailman every day if they were here yet!

After about 10 days - the caterpillars formed cocoons and we had to transfer them into their new home.

After a week the butterflies emerged and Olive couldn't wait to watch them fly away. Her new bff, Harper, happened to be walking by when we were letting them go. The girls absolutely LOVED it.

I can honestly say it was one of the best gifts that Buster got his big sister. I'm not sure Olive would agree though. I think her favorite were the fish.

I Love My Mom

I don't mean to brag, but I have the best mom in the entire world. She's always there to help anyone in need - especially her children. She's generous, kind, thoughtful, and hard working. She's always there for me and I appreciate it more than I can ever say.

Case in point - this week was a little rough. Andrew went back to work and I've had the kids on my own. There have been amazing moments and downright awful ones too. On Thursday I drove to pick up a baby cot and hoped Buster would nap in the car. Just as I was getting onto the freeway to go back home, he woke up and proceeded to cry the entire time. And not just any cry - the heart-wrenching kind that can make a mother feel like the worst parent in the world. My mom happened to call during that time and I couldn't help sobbing myself. He had been fussy all week - I thought for sure I was doing something wrong!

Around 6:30pm - my mom called again and asked to talk to Olive. I could hear her say  "Do you want Mamas to give you a bath tonight?". She had gotten on a flight and was headed to our house! She knew I was having a rough couple of days and wanted to come and help. If that isn't proof that she is the best mom in the world - I don't know what is!

I love you so much mom. You truly are one of a kind.

Glamour Shot - 1 month

Buster Clayton Cahn - 1 month

I cannot believe my baby is already a month old. Time seems to be flying by so fast. I wish I could say he was as easy as Olive! He seems to be a lot more sensitive then she was and will cry at the drop of a hat. Of course, the house is pretty loud with Olive running around being a 2 year-old. I'd probably cry all the time too.
