Olive's New Toy

Grandma and Grandpa Cahn stopped by on Saturday afternoon bearing gifts.  Carolyn made this adorable little giraffe for Olive.

Unfortunately she hasn't quite fallen in love with stuffed animals yet.  I tried to get a picture of her holding it but she tends to go for the toys that make noise or light up.  I'm sure in a few months it will be the one thing she will take everywhere with her.  If it were mine - I would!

Date Night Dinner

Sunday night Andrew and I went to Susan Feniger's Street for our date night.  A few people told us that they LOVED it and a few said that it was just ok.  We figured we had to try it and see for ourselves!

After sitting at our table, the chef sent over complimentary "indian rice krispy treats".  Andrew wasn't too sure of it, but I loved it!  It sweet but with a definite indian spice.

Next was the Kaya toast.  We both absolutely LOVED this dish.  Toasted bread with a creamy coconut jam dipped in a egg, basil, and soy sauce.  It sounds strange, but it was delicious!

For our main courses we got the Thai rice noodles with pork and the brioche cheeseburger.  Both were yummy!

Of course we couldn't pass up dessert either.  We opted for the Egyptian Basbousa Cake with fresh berries.  It was the perfect end to our scrumptious meal!

We both agreed that we would definitely go back - it was THAT good!

Date Night Fun

It's been awhile since Andrew and I have had a proper date night without Olive.  As you can see from the pictures above - we had fun playing in the car on the way to dinner on Sunday night.

Beddy Bye-Bye

As you all know, we've been struggling with Olive's sleep schedule for the last few months.  The days where she would sleep 8-10 hours straight were long gone when her little teeth starting emerging.  Over the last week there has been a strange, new development.  Basically, I feed her and then put her into the crib wide awake.  She puts her head on the mattress and falls asleep in less than 5 minutes.  At first I thought it was too good to be true so I just chalked it up to Olive being extremely tired.   Amazingly, she's been doing it for her naps too!  It's like she knows its time to sleep.  And the best part - she sleeps for 8-10 hours!!!!

As much as I wish I could say that this is her new routine - I know the minute I get use to it she will change it up again!

Solo Flight

I was scheduled to fly home from Sacramento on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, I missed my flight.  It's a long story so I will give the abridged version:

- Got to the airport 30 minutes before my flight.
- Checked my bag but was told that it probably wouldn't make it onto the flight.  Decided to just carry it on.
- Had Olive on hip.  Purse and toy bag in one hand, and suitcase in other.
- Went through security and buzzer went off.  Realized too late that I had 3 8 ounce bottles of expensive hair products purchased a few days prior.
- Begged security guard to let me through since flight took off in less than 15 minutes.  Unfortunately I was denied.
- Could not throw products away so ran downstairs to try and check bag again.
- Realized that with less than 10 minutes to go, I would ultimately miss my flight.

Believe me when I say it was a VERY bad afternoon.

Thankfully the next morning we flew out with no complications.  In fact - Olive fell asleep in my arms for the entire flight.  Our first solo flight was a complete success.

Bay Island BBQ

Last weekend we headed to Bay Island for a BBQ before Olive and I headed to Sacramento for a few days.  Besides falling out of a moving golf cart in the middle of a busy intersection - the weekend was a lot fun!

As you can see - Olive loves to play peek-a-boo with anything that can cover her face!  I have to admit, it is pretty darn cute.

Mommy Gets Pampered

On Sunday Olive and I flew to Sacramento to spend a few days with my mom.  I tried convincing her to stay in LA with us for a few days but it didn't work.  However, she was able to convince me to come back with her via promises of pampering.  I mean....how could I possibly refuse?

And the Winner Is......

The results are in and it looks like the controversy will remain.  I guess in the grand scheme of things I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote.

P.S. Andrew voted for himself 5 times.

Olive Loves Bananas

Do you remember when Olive would make the funniest faces when I would feed her bananas?  Well those days have come and gone - she loves them now!

Also note the medicine dropper in her hand - I told you it was her new favorite toy.

Can You Spot the Medicine Bottle?

For some strange reason Olive loves her medicine bottles.  Over the last couple weeks they have become her new favorite things.  She takes them everywhere - even to bed!  Can you find them in all the pictures?

Group Photo

I couldn't resist buying this group photo when we were at the Aquarium on Monday.  Can you believe they charge $13 bucks a pop for these things????  I'm a sucker.....I know.

Olive Goes to the Aquarium

On Monday afternoon we met Ruby and Georgia at the Aquarium in Long Beach.  We had been wanting to go and figured the girls would love it.

Carrie had a 50% off coupon for all of us, so it was perfect!  Everyone had a great time and the girls were even able to touch the sea anemones, slugs, and starfish.  They were mesmerized with all the sea life.

Hopefully Olive will love the ocean as much as mommy and daddy.  I can't wait to go back when she is a little older.

Cute Outfit of the Week

A baby in our Kindermusik class had on an outfit similar to this one last week.  After talking to her mom I discovered where she bought it and that it was on sale.  How could I possibly resist?  I quickly went to the store and bought one for Olive and a different color for Georgia.  I cannot wait to get a picture of them in it!

And yes - that is Olive using my iphone to text her bff Georgia.

10 Months Old

It's hard to believe our baby is 10 months old today.

Time has gone by FAR too fast.

a frightening look into the future

our friend val handed down an awesome rocking horse to olive. now ordinarily we'd be pumped about a cool toy like this rocking horse - especially because she loves it and will just stare at it and pet it forever. the problem is that i don't want to encourage her into the opium den that is equestrian riding.

her aunt karrie is a perfect example of this sickness - her life is consumed with the long faced demons.  all of her waking hours are occupied with horse shows, buying horses, selling horses, paying for horse food.  and turns out in the end you can't even sell them to elmers!

but on the upside, here's a cute picture of olive -

Sweet Little Angel

For the most part, all of my blog entries are about what Olive and I do on a daily basis.  This one is to express how grateful and happy I am to have her in my life.  It is so crazy how your priorities shift after you have a baby.  Before - I loved going to the newest, coolest restaurants.  Now we look for places that are kid friendly and the meal doesn't take more than 30-40 minutes.  Before I used to buy clothes on a weekly basis for myself and now everything I purchase is for Olive!

In all seriousness, she has changed my life for the better.  I'm learning so much more about myself and how I want to be as a parent.  Of course I will make mistakes - but I want to be the best mom I can be.  She deserves it.  She truly is the most amazing little baby I have ever met. And I'm not just saying that because she is mine.  Okay.....maybe just a little.

Terrible Teeth

The last few days have been pretty brutal.  Our sweet little baby has turned into a bit of a teething mess.  Her top ones have been coming in for the last few weeks and it hasn't been easy.  Not only has she been extra fussy but she refused to eat for 24 hours.  Of course I was worried and thought something more serious was wrong.  We went to the doctor on Thursday, but he said everything looked perfect.  I just wanted some sort of clear cut reason why our happy baby was so miserable. The drooling and chewing on anything and everything should have been proof enough that it was her teeth.

I don't want to speak too soon - but I think our baby is back!  She slept well last night and is happily nursing again.  I guess only time will tell.
