DIY - Ikea Bookshelf

Andrew's birthday is quickly approaching and I wanted to get him a beautiful custom bookshelf for our bedroom. Unfortunately his standards are pretty high - and we haven't been able to find one that we both like. Having one custom made is also problematic because it can be very expensive. And what if we don't like the finished product?!?!

Today I was researching online and an ikea hackers website popped up with a really cool looking low bookcase that is easy to make! Click here to see how.

I showed Andrew and he agreed it would be fun to try and do this together. I promise to post lots of pictures of us attempting to make this!

Auntie Karrie Comes to Visit

Two weeks ago my sister came down to visit us. We were going to have a small dinner party at our house with some friends, but the rain put a damper on our BBQing plans. Instead - we went out to dinner and had a fun Los Angeles adventure. It's apparent that my sister LOVES my husband.

Peek-a-boo

A few weeks ago Buster and I checked out Peekaboo Playland right around the corner from our house.  It's an indoor playground that's right near Olive's new school. I figure Buster and I can go some mornings after dropping her off. While we there - we ran into Harper and Holdyn!

Pool Party!

A few weeks ago we had a BBQ/Pool party at the new house. The weather was perfect and the kids loved getting in the water. We couldn't get Olive out - she was in the pool all day!

Jazz at the LACMA

A few weeks ago we joined some friends at the LACMA for jazz on the green. The kids loved running around and watching all the cars zoom past. However, Olive had a pretty nasty spill and the rest of our evening was touch and go. (the bottom picture was taken pre-fall)

Olive Graduates from Preschool

Sometimes I just want to stop time. I want Olive to stay this little forever. Time keeps moving way too fast. I can't believe she's graduated from preschool and will be in elementary school in one month!

Glenda's Little Farm

Our old neighbor in the Glenn has a little farm in her backyard. It started with chickens and a bunny. Then she got more chickens and 2 ducks. Then she got a pig and named her Piggy Smalls. The kids absolutely love going over there for playdates and feeding the animals. She just got a new teeny tiny piglet. As soon as we go over to meet him - I'll post some pictures.

Bel Air Adjacent

Here's the good news about our new place - it doesn't seem like we live in Los Angeles at all. We are on a hillside and there are trees everywhere. A few weeks ago, we found a baby deer in our backyard. It was the cutest thing and the kids absolutely loved seeing it up close. Of course I worried all night because we are in the wilderness and where there are deer - there are also coyotes!

Now for the bad news. Our house is old. And with anything old - there are a multitude of problems that come along with it. Every time we take a step forward, it seems like we take 2 steps back. It's been trying, frustrating, stressful, and overwhelming. We ended up having to ask our contractor to not come back since there were weeks of delays, no shows, and things not getting done properly. Now we are trying to finish things on our own and that is proving difficult too!

Let's just say it's been a pretty rough month for the Cahn family. I promise to post pictures but it still isn't quite finished……..

* the above fence was falling apart and seemed hazardous for the kids - so we are in the process of redoing the back area.

Art…Art….Art!

It's become apparent that our new house needs a lot of new (or OLD!) artwork. I've been searching on the internet for some interesting things that we could hang on our walls.

These Gray Malin aerial beach shots are bright and beautiful.

Sometimes wish I could be in a Slim Aarons photograph. I love everything about them.

Max Wanger is one of my favorite photographers. I recently bought the above photographs for the house. Unfortunately for me - I can't find the ice cream cone one!
