Career Day with Grandpa!

Let me just say this - I LOVE MY IN-LAWS. They always go above and beyond for our little family. Case in point.....a few weeks ago there was a Career Day at Olive's school. Her teacher thought the kids would LOVE to hear about bugs, so Andrew's dad came in to talk to them. He prepared a slideshow with pictures of insects and spiders. The kids were soooooo into it. It was beyond adorable to see them all get so excited about bugs! The best part was the kids got to go outside into the school garden and release ladybugs and lacewings. As a parting gift they all got to take home a packet of ladybugs. (I mean....how cute is that?!?)

Buster's Birthday!!!

Let me just say this.....I CANNOT BELIEVE MY SWEET BOY IS TURNING 3. How did that happen? One minute he was a baby.....and now he's a full blown toddler. I wish time would slow down, just a little bit. He's so grown up these days.

Date Night

Andrew and I try and do a date night every Sunday. Most of the time we have dinner and go and see a movie. Other times we do something a little different. Two weeks ago we went to the Broad Museum in downtown LA.  Olive wanted to take a picture of us before we left and Buster wanted to make sure he was in it! (I'll post pics from the Broad soon).

Joshua Tree

A few weeks ago I went to Joshua Tree with a friend for a night. Unfortunately I didn't bring any sneakers to hike the park the next day - but we still had a great time. I definitely want to go back with the kiddies.

Mini Golf

A few weeks ago we took Olive and Buster mini golfing at a place near our house. Back in the day before we had kids, Andrew and I would be go all the time. Our games were fiercely competitive with one of us diligently keeping score. Let's just say that we didn't even bother with score cards this time around. Oh how times have changed.......

Water Fast Update

I lasted 110 hours - roughly 4.6 days on the water fast. After 24 hours - I just wasn't hungry anymore. To be honest - the hardest part was taking care of the kids without my normal energy. It was nice, however, to take that time and relax as much as I could. Believe it or not - I read 4 books! It helped that Andrew was off a few of those days!

It's hard to explain how I felt during the fast and how I feel now. During I just couldn't wait until I could have my final sips of water and turn out the light. By 7:30pm I was tired, tired, tired. But... I knew I could do it because I have crazy willpower. Would I do it again? Probably. I really do feel clear headed. I feel like I'm more conscious of the things I'm putting in my body. And my skin has never looked better. My rash is still there. But seriously....night and day from what it was when I first decided to drink only water.

Easter (A Little Late)

I know it's a little late - but here our a few pictures of our Easter with Grandma and Grandpa. They have the BEST backyard for hiding Easter eggs!

Water Fast

On Sunday at 6pm I stopped eating. I had been talking about doing a 3-5 day water fast for a few weeks, and decided that this was the night.

Let me back up a little. I haven't been feeling myself since about November of last year. More tired than normal, uneven skin, irritability, just not "right". I thought that maybe I had a hormonal imbalance and had some tests run at my doctors office. The tests all came back normal - so I tried to drink more water. Take more supplements. Then in February I broke out in a rash over 60% of my body which got progressively worse. I was diagnosed in March and given steroids and various other topical ointments that haven't helped much. Especially since I felt like it was something INSIDE of me that was out of whack. After a lot of research and a weekend in Joshua Tree where I spoke to someone who is an alternative medicine guru - I felt that a water fast might definitely be a way for me to reset my body.

Although it seems scary and dangerous there are so many benefits to water fasting. It can help with  hypertension, cardiovascular disease, epilepsy, arthritis, auto immune diseases, and skin conditions like psoriasis. Check out these websites here and here. I like stories about real people getting real results so I enjoyed this story too.

So here I am, more than 48 hours in.....and I feel GREAT. The first 24 hours I was slightly hungry and had the worst headache. Thankfully I had given up Diet Coke five days previously, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been! I woke up Day 2 not feeling hungry at all. My patience is definitely a little less and there was some slight dizziness. Other than that - my back isn't hurting (which it was), and my rash is looking so much better (it was AWFUL on Sunday).

I'll give a full report when I'm done. Not sure if it will be 3, 4, or 5 full days.

A Little Birthday Trip

It's been awhile since I've taken a girls trip with my mom. YEARS, in fact. Well....in a few months we are traveling somewhere special for my birthday. Can you guess by the items below where we are going?
