Olive's New Quilt

Nana made Olive the most adorable quilt for Christmas.  Mommy might even love it more than her.  It has a little owl in a tree and 2 little birds in the grass.  It really is the cutest thing ever.

I Love Olive

Andrew and I somehow caught another bug that is floating around.  We both feel exhausted and have sore throats.  I kicked it the last time I was feeling sick in about 48 hours.  Unfortunately this time around it seems worse.  My throat is killing me and all I want to do is sleep.

Thankfully my daughter keeps me smiling.  She is the sweetest thing in the whole wide world. I love her so much.

Hair Club for Babies

Olive was born with a full head of hair.  Both Andrew and I were surprised because we thought for sure our little girl would be born bald.  After a few weeks, she started losing a lot of it. Apparently it is normal for newborns to lose their hair in the first 3 months.  It is cased by a drop in hormone levels right after birth.  And is the same reason why new moms lose their luscious locks too.   In any case, Olive's hair is growing back!  It seems to be the same hair color and texture that she was born with.  I guess only time will tell.  I'm crossing my fingers for curly hair like mommy!

Happy New Year!

Friday afternoon we packed up the car and headed to Balboa Island for New Years.  Because we celebrated Christmas in LA this year, we had presents for everyone to open.  Ali, of course, was the most excited because Auntie got her some high heels.

Alison and Emma LOVE to hold little Olive.  It was the first thing they wanted to do!

After hanging with the kiddies, it was time for our New Years Eve feast that Grandma Rufer spent all day making.  She was sweet enough to do a Thanksgiving spread, since Andrew and I weren't able to make it for the holidays.

We all decided to stay home and ring in 2011 as a family.  We had talked about going bowling, but were happy to stay in with the kids.

Grandma wanted to go for a walk around the island so we bundled Olive up and headed out.  Thankfully I packed her cute little jacket since it was freezing outside!

The Christmas lights on some of the houses were amazing!  Hopefully Olive will enjoy it more next year - I think she is still a little young.

Andrew and Todd, however, seemed to enjoy it.  Those two are soooooo sick.

Olive's New Favorite Thing

Olive's new favorite thing is her fist.  Every chance she gets, she jams it into her mouth.  We aren't sure if she is teething, or if she just likes to chew on her fingers.  In any case, it is pretty cute.

Olive's Does Thai Elvis

As most people know one of my favorite restaurants is Palms Thai.  The food is cheap, good, and comes out fast.  Lotus and I tend to go there every Saturday on our girls day.

They have this Thai singer who gets dressed up like Elvis and sings during your meal.  If you look closely you can see him in the blue outfit watching tv before he hits the stage.

Last night we went with Tim and his mom, Mary.  The food was good, but I definitely paid for it later.  Hopefully Olive didn't suffer from all the spicy food I ordered!

Mommy Gets Her Bling Back!

For the last few months I haven't been able to wear my wedding rings. Everyone kept telling me my fingers would go back to normal in a few months.  Unfortunately, I couldn't wait any longer and finally had to take them in to get enlarged.  I secretly think they were too tight to begin with.

Pump Station

Yesterday Andrew and I took Olive to my favorite place - The Pump Station.  Not only did we take our birthing class here, but I'm taking an upcoming 4 part infant massage class with Olive starting January 4th.  My mom was sweet enough to get me a gift certificate for Xmas, so it was the perfect excuse to stop by!  Funny enough, I ran into a couple I had met briefly on the Promenade.  Now that we have a baby, you end up making friends with anyone and everyone who has one!  Their baby boy is named Oliver so we bonded right away and I gave them my cell phone so we could all get together.  Unfortunately I think I either gave them the wrong number or she punched it in incorrectly since I haven't heard from them. Or worse, maybe they just didn't like us?  Come on....there is NO way that is the case.  We are the coolest parents ever.

Sleeping Beauties

My favorite part of the morning is when Olive wakes up around 7am.  After feeding her I usually sneak her into bed with us.  While daddy gets up to go to work, we usually sleep for another 1-2 hours.  Now that daddy is off this week for the Christmas/New Year holiday, he gets to sleep in with us too!  This morning we didn't wake up until 10am, but somehow daddy snuck this picture in.

Glamour Shot - 10 Weeks (ish)

Olive Harper Cahn - 10 Weeks

In all the hub-bub yesterday, we didn't get a glamour shot of Olive!  This morning we captured a few good ones.

Of course Andrew didn't like the picture I picked.  He wanted me to post this one.  I decided to just post both.

Christmas Pizza Dinner

Since Tim and his family were in town for Christmas, we thought it would be fun to have dinner together.  Tim, his brother Peter, and mom Mary all came over to our house for some homemade pizza.

Unfortunately I can't take any of the credit since Tim and Peter got all the ingredients and made everything.

Tim's mom is sooo sweet and loved holding Olive.  She was able to put her right to sleep with her special postpartum nursing skills.

Andrew and I had a great time and Olive was on her best behavior.  She even slept for over 7 hours that night!

Santa Granted Mommy's Wish

Over the last two weeks Olive has been sleeping in her crib at night.  It was difficult at first not having her next to me.  Now it is a lot easier because I sleep ten times better!  Last night I was feeling particularly run down and prayed for extra sleep.  Santa must have heard me because Olive slept from 10:30 to 6am!!!!  I'm crossing my fingers she sleeps that well tonight too!

Christmas Breakfast

After opening presents, daddy made mommy a delicious breakfast.  Corn pancakes, tatar tots, and banana bread.

Thanks Dad!

Presents, Presents, Presents x 2

Last night we went over to Andrew's parents for dinner and presents.  I have to admit, I missed Christmas Eve at my dads and Christmas at my moms.  It is so hard with 3 different families!  We have decided to switch off each year.  One year we will do Christmas in Sacramento and Gustine and that same year do Thanksgiving in Camarillo with the Cahns.

Carolyn got me my awesome diaper bag as an early Xmas present.  She also made me a cute knit hat!

Andrew got an awesome set of tools for his new toolbox.  And the coolest moosehead made out of cardboard.

My mom got me the sweetest black leather purse.  My old one has definitely seen better days.  Now I can take my old one in to get cleaned since I've got a new one!  She also got me a pair of Toms shoes and some makeup.

Andrew got the nonstick pan that he had been wanting.  And my mom is also going to have the bookshelf Andrew wants made in a darker wood for him.

We pick names each year with my family because it is too hard to buy presents for everyone!  Ida got me a gift certificate to Macy's!  The luggage I wanted was sold out, so I'm hoping I can find some luggage that I love there.  Todd got Andrew and found the nicest Vince sweater. Andrew is going to wear it tonight for our Xmas dinner!

Great Aunt Joan got us the nicest gift!  A gift card to Kiva so that we can loan money to people around the globe.  Kiva's mission is to connect people, through lending, for the sake of alleviating poverty.  Since 2009, they have facilitated over $100 million in loans.  Andrew and I have been doing it for a few years, so it is a much appreciated and thoughtful gift!

Liz, Todds girlfriend, also got me the coolest bracelet!  It is gold and black too so I can wear it with the ones Andrew got me.  She also got Olive the cutest little black sneakers that look like converse.  Soooo sweet.

Thank you everyone for making it the best Christmas ever.  I think it helps that we have the greatest present of all - OLIVE!

Presents, Presents, Presents

I love Christmas.  Not just because I loooooove opening presents, but because I love finding the perfect gifts for everyone.

This year, I made Andrew a book of our home construction/remodel.  It took me months to get the right layout, photos, etc.  Thankfully it turned out perfect, and he loved it!  I also got him a Banksy book he wanted, and a few pairs of shoes.

Andrew got me the most amazing bracelets that I had been dying for!  He went overboard and got me 6!  3 red and 3 black.  I have the most amazing husband in the world!

Olive, of course, got the most presents!  Grandma Carolyn made her the cutest teddy bear blanket.  Apparently, she started making it when I was in labor.

She also got some blocks, a handmade sweater, and the cutest little doll that Carolyn made as well.  As you can see, Olive loves it.

Grandma Rufer bought her a ton of clothes.  A few Xmas nighties, skinny jeans, tops, and a one shoulder bathing suit.  She also got her the cutest little furry jacket with ears on the hood.

Auntie Lindsay got us the coolest feather ornament.  We now have an amazing assortment of Christmas decorations!

She also got Olive a family tree.  She worked for weeks and weeks on it and it turned out amazing!  I'm sure Olive will love it.

Ross, Ida, and the girls got Olive a few cute outfits!  One of which Grandma Melodie already got her.  Oooops!  But this green polka dot dress with little sweater is so adorable.  I can't wait to put her in it.

More to come..........
