Juggling Act

Yesterday Andrew and I had big plans for our morning - we were going to make rainbow pancakes, go for a walk, and run a few errands. Let's just say this: we made it out of the house around 11:30am for our walk and only made it to our front yard. Olive wanted daddy to chase her, and I ended up talking to our neighbors for 35 minutes. Next thing we knew - Olive was ready to take her nap. No pancakes, no errands, and no walk (unless running in the yard counts)!

We agreed that after Olive's nap we would take some pictures outside and then run errands. It's hard enough getting Olive out of the house. Add a baby to the equation and it's almost impossible!

Somehow we were able to get a few pictures taken before heading out. And even more surprisingly we were able to go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Toys R Us, and Target! Thankfully Buster slept the entire time. He loooves being in the car.

Dinner, however, was another story. Buster woke up just as our food arrived and demanded to be fed. I ended up spilling most of my salad on me (try eating with your left hand....it isnt easy). And then our poor little guy didn't want to get back in his car seat. One thing is for sure - he is a snuggle monster. He wants to be held ALL THE TIME!!! We high tailed it out of there with our wailing baby and were happy when we finally reached the car.

All in all I have to say that it has been pretty amazing with these two little munchkins of mine. But it isn't easy juggling them both. It's going to take a little bit of time and practice before I get the hang of it!

I Love This Face

How could I have ever thought that I couldn't love this little guy as much as Olive? The second they put him in my arms I was in love. Sometimes I just stare at him while he is sleeping and think about how lucky I am. He is healthy, he is gorgeous, and he's all mine.

Buster's Birthing Adventures

I hate to admit it, but by the end of this pregnancy I was feeling pretty crappy. I had convinced myself that Buster was coming earlier rather than later, and by the time my due date approached - I was feeling anxious and depressed. I wasn't sure what was taking so long and with each false contraction (and thinking that this was finally it!!!) I grew more and more frustrated. I tried the salad. I tried a foot massage. I tried walking. I tried the salad again. Unfortunately nothing worked.

All that changed on Wednesday afternoon. My contractions started after a visit to our doctors office and didn't let up. They were coming fast (every 2.5 minutes) and hard. After a quick visit to my favorite sushi place we headed to the hospital and 5 hours later Buster was born.

I didn't think that there could be a better birth than Olive's. But I have to admit Buster's was pretty amazing too. I loved my nurse, Emily. I loved the midwife and resident that actually delivered my sweet little boy. I even liked that I got the epidural at 7CM and just as they were administering the magical drugs, Emily told me the baby was here and that I needed to get ready to push. Huh? How the heck did that happen? Well I can tell you - the anesthesiologist took his sweet time and I somehow got to 10CM before I could feel any relief. At least next time I'll know I can do it without any drugs!

After 3 pushes the doctors put him on my chest and everyone left the room for an hour. I just stared at him the entire time not quite believing that he was finally here.

Both my mom and Carolyn were in the room for the birth. My hope was that it would be a special experience that we could all share. And honestly - I think it was a very special moment for all of us!

But the absolute best part of the entire day was when Olive came to the hospital and sat in my lap and kissed her baby brother for the first time. Looking down at both of my babies - I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Andrew and I decided that we wanted both grandmas to be there for the birth of Buster. Since I thought he was coming in early May - my mom flew in to be with us. Needless to say we've been treated to delicious home cooked meals and lots of sweet treats.

Last week Mamas and Olive decided that we all needed some chocolate chip cookies. Our daughter loves to put her apron on and help. Her favorite thing to say these days is "I help too?"

Of course Olive ate more than her fair share of chocolate chips before they even went into the batter. I think she takes after mommy since I couldn't stop myself from eating whole spoonfuls of cookie dough!

How cute is she?!?!

emergency room adventure 2013

because kim was overdue she had to go to the hospital on monday to get monitored as a precaution.  it is about 45 min of being hooked up to sensors and ultrasounds. as you can imagine, keeping a toddler entertained for 45 minutes in a drab hospital room is a challenge.  i was able to keep olive reasonably distracted during the ultrasound section, but when we moved over to the heart rate test she started to get antsy.  one of her favorite games is to play slide, which basically involves her sliding down my legs - she finds it hilarious for some strange reason.  half way down her second set she got snagged on something and fell face first onto the ground.

she immediately started crying and buried her head into my shoulder, as she usually does when she gets hurt.  we walked around the office and she stopped crying, but wouldn't take her head out of my shoulder.  when kim was finally done with her tests we were able to pry her head out and saw all the blood on my shirt and the cut under her chin.

needless to say, it wasn't a good situation.  it wasn't really bleeding anymore, but it was pretty deep.  the picture doesn't really do it justice.  because we were already in the hospital we went down to the emergency room to have them take a look.

olive was amazingly well behaved while the doctors examined her and discussed the best way of closing the wound. after much discussion we decided to superglue it instead of stitches. kim told olive that they were putting fairy dust in there, and olive stayed perfectly still.

4 1/2 hours later we were on our way home.  nerves shot and still no baby...

Buster...Where are you?

Sooooooo....Buster is still not here. I had an appointment this morning to make sure my fluid levels were normal and to monitor his heart rate.  Thankfully everything was perfect.  However we had a minor disaster with Olive during the appointment - but I'll let daddy blog about that.  Don't worry - she is totally fine. Mommy, however, is having a pretty rough go of it. Crossing my fingers the baby will be here tomorrow.

INSTA-FAIL

I've been a fan of Instagram for a long time. I love uploading photos and using it for my blog. However, over the last few weeks my account has become corrupt.  I spend hours (and I'm NOT kidding) trying to upload photos and comment on pictures. Unfortunately I get a FAIL error almost every single time. Today - I couldn't take it anymore and signed up for a new account. I have to admit it felt pretty amazing when, on the first try, my photo and comment went through. It's the little things, right?

Happy Birthday to Me

I turned 38 today. Seems a little crazy since I still feel 21.  Okay......maybe 28. In any case - I had a wonderful day. We started out with presents in bed right when I woke up - who wouldn't love that! The biggest surprise was a bag that I had ruined months ago with spilled sunscreen. Andrew had a friend in NYC go out and get it for me! He is the best husband in the world. After presents we headed to the Beverly Hills hotel for breakfast with my mom and stepdad.

Next, we went shoe shopping. I was hoping that trying on super high heels would help Buster make his way into the world, but no such luck! As you can see - Olive loved trying on all the gorgeous shoes. Surprisingly, she was pretty steady on her feet too! I think we might be in trouble!

Then my mom and Chris took Olive to Newport so that we could have one last day/night together. Up next - XIV Karat. Andrew wanted to buy me a little something else for my birthday and suggested pearls. I have been wanting a necklace for awhile, so I didn't resist! It won't be ready for a few weeks but I love love love it.

Then we met some friends at Goldies for lunch. I feel so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life that care about me. Especially on my birthday! I felt like the luckiest girl in the world ALL DAY!After lunch we relaxed on the couch and watched movies for the rest of the afternoon. We ventured out for a quick dinner and then counted the minutes until my birthday was officially over. Now we start counting down the seconds until Buster's arrival. I'm crossing my fingers it will be any day now.....

Baby Bump - 40 Weeks

I thought for sure Buster would be here already - especially considering my doctor told me last week it would be Sunday or Monday. Unfortunately both days came and went with no baby. I've tried everything - "the salad", Chinese foot massage, spicy food. Still......nothing. I wish I could say I was a patient mommy to be - but I can't!!

Baby Bump - 40 Weeks

The baby is 20 inches, about the size of a small pumpkin and weighs 7.5 pounds

Baby Update

Baby Buster has yet to make an appearance. In fact - I haven't had any contractions at all today. I thought for sure he was coming last night - especially after eating the salad.  But around midnight the contractions stopped. It looks like this little guy is waiting for my birthday.....

"The Salad"

A few hours ago we ventured into Studio City to have "the salad" at Caioti Cafe. It worked with Olive ..... so I'm hoping it will work with Buster! I just want him here before my birthday.
