because kim was overdue she had to go to the hospital on monday to get monitored as a precaution. it is about 45 min of being hooked up to sensors and ultrasounds. as you can imagine, keeping a toddler entertained for 45 minutes in a drab hospital room is a challenge. i was able to keep olive reasonably distracted during the ultrasound section, but when we moved over to the heart rate test she started to get antsy. one of her favorite games is to play slide, which basically involves her sliding down my legs - she finds it hilarious for some strange reason. half way down her second set she got snagged on something and fell face first onto the ground.
she immediately started crying and buried her head into my shoulder, as she usually does when she gets hurt. we walked around the office and she stopped crying, but wouldn't take her head out of my shoulder. when kim was finally done with her tests we were able to pry her head out and saw all the blood on my shirt and the cut under her chin.
needless to say, it wasn't a good situation. it wasn't really bleeding anymore, but it was pretty deep. the picture doesn't really do it justice. because we were already in the hospital we went down to the emergency room to have them take a look.
olive was amazingly well behaved while the doctors examined her and discussed the best way of closing the wound. after much discussion we decided to superglue it instead of stitches. kim told olive that they were putting fairy dust in there, and olive stayed perfectly still.
4 1/2 hours later we were on our way home. nerves shot and still no baby...
