TV - I Love You (Sometimes)

The last 2 weeks have been crazy. I've been trying to pack the entire house almost single-handedly. Besides the obvious part of being pregnant - it's been difficult to get anything done with a toddler who wants all of my attention. Here's where I'm not proud of myself: I've relied far too much on the TV to help me out. Believe me - I've tried to get Olive to help me pack and make it into a fun game. The problem is that she loses interest after 15 minutes and I have to repack everything! That's where the TV comes in. I can basically get 5 boxes done while she watches one of her little shows. At the moment her favorites are: Tinkerbell, Oswald, Bubble Guppies, and Finding Nemo. I'm excited to get into the new house so that we can actually start to have a life again.....without the television!

Our New House

I couldn't resist posting this picture I took on my phone a few weeks ago of our new place. At the moment it's getting repainted and fixed up. I went by today and I have to say - it looks soooo good! Originally the rooms were all different colors, including a bizarre sandy brown. Now they will all be a light gray with white crown molding. I promise to post some pictures of the inside as soon as we move in.

Potty Training Diaries 2

Yesterday was our second day potty training and I'm happy to say that Olive had zero accidents. In fact - she even did something other than pee-pee in the potty. There's a first time for everything!

Potty Training Diaries

Today was the first day we went completely diaper-less. We stayed home all day packing and trying to organize the house - so it seemed like the perfect time to try it! It's hard to believe but Olive didn't have any accidents. She even said to me after her nap, "Pee-pee mommy". Maybe my little girl is ready!

*note: After writing that she didn't have an accident, Olive proceeded to say, "Oh no mommy. Pee-pee." I still think one accident is pretty good for her first day! I'm sure going to miss our concrete floors.

What's in a Name?

As most of you know - Andrew and I are having a really tough time picking out a name for this baby. Andrew is set on BUSTER, and I want anything but. Here is the problem: months ago we started calling him Buster. And now....even Olive calls him that! There isn't anything else that sounds right. I tried calling him Felix for a few days, and it just felt wrong. So do we name him something else and just call him Buster - or take it out of the equation entirely? The only other name we are seriously considering is JACK.  Jack was Andrew's grandfathers name and for some reason I like the sound of Jack Clayton Cahn......

(note: This 3D image was taken of the baby a few weeks ago. I normally don't like these sorts of pictures because the babies look so strange. I couldn't resist posting this one because I thought he sort of looked cute!)

Olive Update

So much has changed in the past few months with our little girl. She is talking up a storm now - adding new vocabulary words every day. Including one she heard me say this morning. Uh-oh. She is obsessed with the ocean - she can point out pictures of hammerhead sharks, kelp, mussels, and sea otters - just to name a few. She loves wearing her Cinderella Sleeping Beauty, and Tinkerbell "princess dresses" around the house. In fact - if she had her way, she would wear them all the time! She loves to kiss my tummy and say "Hi-ya baby". As far as potty training - I'm not forcing the issue. She doesn't seem super into it, so I'm trying to go at her pace. She can almost do a back float on her own and she is slowly getting the hang of her tricycle. And most of all she absolutely LOVES her daddy. Every morning when she wakes up she calls, "Daddy.  Daaaaaaddy. Out of crib".  I hate to admit it, but it's pretty darn cute.

DIY - Cool Notebooks

The materials:

- Moleskine Kraft notebooks
- Scissors
- Washi Tape

I got the idea for these notebook here. This project is so simple and easy - it only takes about 5 minutes! Just place the tape in any design style you like and make sure it goes on both the inside and backside jacket of notebook.

(Here's how mine turned out - not too shabby!)

Whale Watching

For the last month or so, Olive has been obsessed with sea life. Every night before bed we go through an ocean book that has pictures of sharks, whales, dolphins, and every other ocean creature you can think of. She even knows the difference between a hammerhead shark, a basking shark, and a whale shark!

Because of her newfound love of the sea, we decided to take her on a whale watching trip while we were in Newport visiting grandma. Unfortunately the weather was a little dreary and cold!

After a few minutes on the boat, we spotted a large pod of dolphins playing in the waves. Olive was pretty excited to see real live dolphins as opposed to pictures in her book!

Finally, towards the end of our trip, the captain spotted 2 gray whales. There weren't any good photo opportunities - but Andrew managed to snap this picture of a tail.

Bye Bye Sunlight Place

After much thought and discussion, Andrew and I decided to put our house back on the market a few months ago. Here is the thing: WE LOVE OUR HOUSE. When we first bought it - there was more wrong with it than right! But through a lot of hard work, yelling, and too much $$ - we made it perfect. As of friday, we no longer own our sweet little Eichler on Sunlight Place. Thankfully, we found the perfect buyer who loves and appreciates it just as much as we do. Although it isn't easy letting it go - who knows what the future will bring......

Sleep Update

For the last few weeks we've had very little problems with Olive's sleep habits. We finally have her back on schedule going to bed around 8/8:30pm every night. Her favorite thing to do now is to read books before going "night-night". Thankfully the days of her going to bed after 9pm are long gone!

Very First Night Away.....

Believe it or not, I have NEVER had a night away from Olive. Andrew and I go out a lot - but I'm always there in the morning when our little girl wakes up! All that changed on Friday when my mom took her for the night to Newport. Surprisingly, Andrew got off work at a decent hour and we headed to the Soho House to see Lotus and my friend Yancy. They left to have dinner and we decided to make the most of our evening and eat there. We opted out of a movie and headed home to snuggle on the couch. I have to admit - it was nice having the house all to ourselves. The best part was that I knew that Olive was having the BEST time and didn't miss us at all!

Baby Bump - 27 Weeks (a little late)

Baby Bump - 27 Weeks (from last week)

Baby is 14.5 inches - about the size of a cauliflower and weighs 2 lbs

I've been confused for the last couple of weeks on how far along I really am. The last few times we've been to the doctor they have said that the baby is measuring bigger so my dates are off and I'm really due end of April. Regardless of whether that is true - why can't they just go by months rather than weeks? How far along is 27 weeks anyway? Am I 7 months? Almost 7 months? Even though I've done this before - it's still confusing!

Wedding Weekend Part 4 - Breakfast

The morning after the wedding, Andrew and I had a little breakfast party for the happy couple. Who doesn't love donuts and Bloody Mary's?

It was nice to have one last party in our house before we move (more on that later). And it felt good to be able to do a little something for Christine and Garrett.  All in all, it was a fantastic weekend of celebrating two of the coolest people we know!

Wedding Weekend Part 2 - Wedding

Garrett and Christine got married on Saturday at the Smog Shoppe in Los Angeles. I wasn't sure what to expect from the venue, but I have to say: It was perfect. Intimate, cool, and special all at the same time!

Molly and Peter officiated the ceremony - which was short and sweet, with a lot of laughs thrown in. As you can see from the pictures - Christine looked absolutely breathtaking.

Andrew and I had a fabulous time and even stayed until the very end! It was so nice spending this special evening with our dearest friends.  And we couldn't be more excited for the happy couple - they are perfect for each other!
