El Capitan

Field Trip, El Capitan Canyon

Last weekend I was lucky enough to be a part of a photography field trip at El Capitan Canyon. At first I was very apprehensive about going because not only am I not a professional photographer (almost all the people attending were) but I also felt like I wasn't good enough to be there. I don't have a fancy camera, I'm not the most amazing photographer, and I certainly can't make a living off of it. But...I LOVE taking pictures. It's one of the things that I truly enjoy and I knew that if I didn't go - I would regret it. So I went. I didn't know a single person out of the 400 people there. But by the end of it - I was connected to every single one of them. The experience is truly difficult to describe but the saying "you had to be there" rings true. Let me just say this - there were hours of classes, lots of laughs, late night pillow talk with my roomates, a talent show, dancing until the sun came up, a cereal truck, live music, smile booths, quiet walks on the beach, beautiful sunsets, stargazing, and lots and lots of picture taking. It really was an amazing experience. And one that I will never, ever forget.

Olive and Buster Update

These 2 little ones aren't so little anymore. I can't believe how fast time is moving. Sometimes I wish I could just slow it down a little.

OLIVE

- Wants to dress herself every morning. Sometimes I'm not exactly happy with the results. For some reason she loves to pair flowers with stripes. Maybe she's onto something.
- Loves to draw. And when I say loves - I mean LOVES. She makes family portraits every day.
- Obsessed with flash tattoos. If I let her she will put them everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE.
- Begs us for kittens every day. She says she wants two and will name them "Kit" and "Kat"
- Favorite song is 'Take Me to Church' by Hozier
- Loves to help in the kitchen. Her favorite is baking cookies with daddy.
- Still prefers straight hair to curly.
- Every time we are in a parking garage she screams, "ECHOOOOOOO!"
- Loves to be naked.
- Is starting to read! We sound out words everyday.

BUSTER

- Obsessed with the 7D's and the Lorax. I swear this kid could watch tv 24/7
- Loves going to the park. Every morning he picks up his sand toys and says "Paaaark??"
- Can work an iPad better than any adult I know. Seriously. I wish I were kidding.
- Finally eating bananas!
- Follows Olive around and tries to imitate everything she does.
- Loves water, especially pools.
- Every time we are in a parking garage he copies Olive and screams, "ECHOOOOOO!"
- All of a sudden prefers mommy over daddy (thank goodness one of them does!)
- Starting to string 2 and 3 words together.
- Is very particular about shoes. He only wants to wear his toms, or native, or vans. He refuses to wear high tops or anything with laces.

Hello Again!

I know I haven't blogged in awhile. To be honest - things have been a little nutty in the Cahn household. Our life is in boxes at the moment and I haven't had much blog entry inspiration. A couple of weeks ago we decided as a family to give Sparky back. He was making our life far more complicated and with our impending homelessness, it didn't exactly seem fair to him. In any case - I've been feeling pretty down. I decided that I needed to do something for myself and signed up for a photography field trip. I was hoping I would learn more about photography and myself. It definitely did more than that. It. Was. An. Amazing. Experience. One I will never forget. (more later)

* this picture was taken on my iPhone on the last night of field trip. I can't remember the last time I felt so inspired.

Grandma & Grandpa's

Saturday afternoon we drove to Camarillo to visit grandma and grandpa and see their new chickens. Unfortunately the baby chicks were super skittish around the kids, so I couldn't get any photos.

Grandpa made pizza and Olive got to help. Her absolute favorite part was throwing the dough up in the air. Grandma outdid herself this time with dessert - homemade ice cream sandwiches. They were soooooooooo delicious.

These two are getting way too big. Sometimes I wish I could freeze time so they could stay this little forever.

Color Me Mine

Last weekend we met Emma and her mommy at Color Me Mine. Olive absolutely adores her so she was pretty excited to spend the day with her. How cute are they?

Bye Bye Brentwood Glenn

Andrew and I have been casually looking for a house for about a year now. A few months ago, we started getting more serious about finding a new place. Cut to a little over a week ago when we were told we would have to be out of our current rental by April 1st. It's a long story that I won't get into - but we are in a bit of a pickle!

Here's the thing. We found the perfect place last week. We walked in the front doors and just knew it was our house. The only hitch…….we submitted our offer hours after they had accepted another. We are still holding out hope - so please cross your fingers for us. We need all the help we can get!
