Olive Harper Cahn - 40 Weeks

Girls Saturday with Olive

For as long as I can remember Lotus and I have always spent our saturdays together.  Normally we have lunch, see a movie, and do a little shopping.  Things have definitely changed since having Olive.  Now we are lucky if we can have a leisurely lunch!  This Saturday we had big plans for a nice, long girls day.  Unfortunately Andrew had to work so our plans were thwarted.

We ended up having lunch at Izakaya with Olive.  I even ordered her something off the kids menu - chicken and rice.  She couldn't quite get the hang of chewing the chicken so Lotus and I ate it instead.  I can't wait for the day that she understands just how much I cherish my Saturdays.  And maybe, just maybe, when she is old enough we will include her too!

Lula Day 5 - The Final Chapter

Friday was our last day to watch little Lula.  We decided to lay low at the house for most of the afternoon.  Unfortunately both girls refused to take naps so we packed up the car and drove around until they passed out. Even though it wasn't as difficult as I thought having two little babies to look after, I couldn't have done it without Courtney.  It makes me have second thoughts about having another one so soon after Olive!  I may have to wait a little longer than I thought.

Lula Day 4

Thursday afternoon we headed over to Kindermusik for our final class.  I love it because the kids get to play with a lot of different thing - musical instruments, sponges, books, spoons, and bowls.  I know it doesn't sound like much, but they love it!  This was an especially exciting class because Olive clapped for the first time while we were dancing.  Because of my excitement over her new trick I signed up for 5 more weeks of the class!

Lula Day 3

Wednesday we decided to stay home and have a few people over for a little pool party.  Lula, Olive, Ruby, and Georgia were all pretty excited to get in the warm water.

Olive and Lula even coordinated so they would be wearing the same bathing suit!  Another successful day with baby #2.  It makes me think that I might be able to have another one sooner than I think!

Olive's Sleep Habits

Every night when we put Olive to sleep she likes to do this.   It's a little frustrating but how can you deny that little face?  She is too cute for her own good!

Lula Day 2

Day 2 went by just as quickly as the first day with Lula.  We left the house early in the morning to go to Storytime in Santa Monica and then Gymboree.  Of course, Lula LOOOOOVED it.  Her and Olive had so much fun!  After class we went to Nordstrom to change and feed the little ones. Look what Lula did - ooops.  Guess someone doesn't like her veggies!

Where Have all the Pacifiers Gone?

This is a story in 3 parts.

Part 1 - Olive started chewing the side of her crib like crazy a few weeks ago.  We tried everything to discourage her from doing it - but the covers and rubber siding didn't work very well.  I finally used one of her swaddling blankets and tied it as tight as I could.  It doesn't look pretty - but it works!

Part 2 - Every morning Daddy and I are perplexed as to why there are only 1 or 2 pacifiers left in the crib.  We usually start the night off with 4 or 5 and somehow a few always end up on the floor or under her bed.  With that being said a ton have gone missing.  I had to go to Target the other day to buy more because we seem to lose more then we keep!

Part 3 - A few nights ago when we were getting Olive ready for bed I happened to look in our makeshift cover and guess what we found?  Our missing pacifiers!  I guess Olive drops them when she stands up in the middle of the night.

Michelle is a Great Photographer

Here are a few more pictures from our afternoon on Monday at Georgia's house.  Michelle took so many amazing photos that I couldn't decide which ones to post!  She is a professional photographer so I don't feel bad that my pictures aren't as good!  Check out all the great pics on her website.

Lula Comes To Stay!

This week Becky is producing a very important program for the NFL Network and asked if Olive and I would take care of Lula while she is working. We even have her younger sister, Courtney, to help out. How could I possibly say no? I haven't had a chance to spend any one on one time with Lula so it was my perfect opportunity!

Yesterday was our first day and I have to admit I was worried it might be a bit crazy. However, both Lula and Olive were the most well behaved little ladies all day. The two were so excited to be spending time together that we couldn't get either one to fall asleep in the morning. Thankfully my go to solution is the car. Within minutes of putting them in the car seats - they were out!

After driving around for a bit we came back to the house to wait for the babies to wake up. Once they did we got them both ready to start our day. Can you tell from the picture that Lula was loving it at the Cahn house?

First up - Century City Mall for a little window shopping and lunch.

After lunch we headed over to Michelle and Georgia's house so the girls could play. Of course, both Olive and Lula passed out the minute we pulled up to the house. We decided to drive around so they could have a nice, long second nap. After they both woke up we headed inside. As you can tell from the picture above Olive loves Georgia's toy box just as much as her own!

You can see how much fun the girls had.

For some reason they were all obsessed with this cold can of Sprite. Here Lula is having her first sip.  Of course, I'm kidding.  I would never let a baby have soda!

All in all a great first day! Let's hope Day 2 is equally as successful!

olive is smart

because my parents were hippies and didn't believe in video camera, there is no video of me as a baby doing adorable things. there are tons of photos, but no videos. so kim and i have been taking a lot of videos of olive so she doesn't have to live through the pain of my childhood.

this is a perfect example of olive being cute -

by andrew™

in the year that kim has been publishing her blog, she's always been worried that her readers couldn't distinguish between her posts and mine. i think it's' pretty clear who is writing what - #1 i never use capital letters, and #2 my posts are generally making fun of something olive is doing while kim's usually include the phrase 'lets just say' or 'let me tell you'.

anyway, i finally figured out that i can create a separate user to do postings on the blog, so for now on it will say 'by andrew' on my hilarious posts rather than 'by kimmie' for everything.

confusion averted.

Brusha-Brusha-Brusha

I've been trying to get in the habit of brushing Olive's teeth at night.  It's hard enough to remember to brush my own, so I haven't been as consistent as I would like.  Thankfully I have a little helper who LOVES doing it herself now.  We sing a little song while we brush her 4 teeth. "Brusha-Brusha-Brusha", "Brusha-Brusha-Brusha", "Brusha-Brusha-Brusha".  For whatever reason, Olive loves it.

olive flys... and things always work out for mom

kim asked me to write this blog.  she probably expected me to say some generic stuff about how well behaved olive was on the plane, and how the pilots let us into the cockpit when we landed.  of course, that is all true. but that's not the point of my entry.

my point is this - i've come to learn over the years that kim is one of those people who have the golden touch.  whatever they want just sort of happens.  the picture below is a perfect example.

while we were in the air, kim and i both thought it would be cool to get a picture of olive in the cockpit.  but we both also thought that some sort of tsa rule would make it impossible.  when the plane landed, kim asked the flight attendant.  she said that it was technically possible, but the flight was an hour late, and they were doing a shift change, so they wouldn't have time, but we could ask anyway.

so kim marches up to the front, and what do you know?  both pilots look up from whatever paperwork they are busy doing, smile and get out of their seats.  one offers to take pictures, some with the flash, some without. i'm surprised they didn't offer to let us taxi the plane out, or maybe start the engines or something.

the true moral of the story - i'm going to make kim buy the lottery tickets from now on.

Kindermusik Part 2

Alison joined us today for our Kindermusik class.  She played with Olive almost the entire time.  She is such a good cousin!

Georgia loves all the musical instruments we get to play with.

This is Olive's friend Alexander.  He used to be in our old Mommy & Me class.  He is such a cutie pie.

Oliver even came along and tried out the class this week.

We are going to miss Alison!  Hopefully she comes back and visits soon.
