it probably sounds insane that our little 1 1/2 year old daughter is already applying to schools. and i would agree, it is nuts. but apparently it's what you have to do in los angeles.
you see the problem is that public schools suck, so that means you have to go the private school route. but to get into a good private school, you have to first get into a good preschool, and to get into a good preschool you have to first get into a good playgroup. it's a vicious cycle.
kim and i have done the best we can to not feed into that hype. a lot of kim's mom friends have been on 6+ tours of the local schools. i did a search on the internet and using my usual research methodology - which had the coolest website - i picked one to tour.
and as luck would have it - the one we toured turned out to be pretty cool, so we signed up. they follow a hippie teaching methodology called the reggio emilia approach. although i would make the argument that all 2 year old's learning is self-guided. have you ever tried to sit a toddler down and make them do something they didn't want to do?
anyway here is a link to the school. kim is doing a once a week parent/child class with olive that will be a good introduction to school, and learning, and being with a huge group of kids, etc etc. i hope they don't give olive too much homework because i think i've forgotten all of my math learnin'.
important footnote - kim will argue that her play group teacher recommended them before i did my internet search, but sort of like elisia gray, it's more of a independent discovery situation.

Wow - we are totally in the same situation! We were avoiding the preschool hype like the plague, until we found out that the jackpot of preschools in our area is walking distance away. We got to tour it, and it is indeed awesome, and we now want Ruby to go there! She and Olive can trade notes - Ruby's future preschool is a Reggio school, too! (little owl preschool dot com)
