Classical Baby

For the last year or so Andrew and I had a no TV rule for Olive. There have been studies that have linked ADD to a lot of tv watching in children under 2. Whether or not it is accurate - who knows! Needless to say, we both worried about the effects on our sweet little baby. Since she is our first, we wanted to do everything right - so no TV became our mantra. Cut to a few months ago when I came across a Classical Baby show on HBO. I figured classical music couldn't be THAT bad for Olive.....right? Unfortunately, at that time she was not into it at all. It wouldn't hold her interest for more than a minute or two at a time. Then a few weeks ago I tried again. Guess who LOVES it now?

She goes crazy when the baby comes out to start conducting. Then after each musical piece she claps along with the other animals in the audience. Believe me - it's pretty cute.

And the best part? It holds her interest for the entire 25 minutes. She loves it so much Grandma Melodie bought her the 3 part series as an early Christmas present. I sit with her the entire time and point out the different animals and talk about the music. Hopefully interacting with her counteracts any negative aspects of letting her watch tv. Andrew and I both grew up watching Sesame Street so it can't be THAT bad, right?
