like some sort of demented alarm clock, olive has taken to waking up everyday at 6:30am. apparently there is too much fun to be had during the day. i have a number of well reasoned arguments against this, but when i start to explain them to her all she does is is chew on her finger and drool.
so if there is no other option, why not use that time for educational purposes?
olive has one of those wooden stacking ring toys that i'm sure we've all had as children. she loves it. more correctly - she hates it. she hates to see it with the rings stacked on it - if she spies it in the corner of her eye, she'll run over to it and dump it over. so every morning i've been teaching her how to stack them back up. for a while it fell on deaf ears, but then she slowly started figuring it out -
Sunday the whole family packed up and headed to Long Beach for lunch and a day at the Aquarium with the Kim's. We started off at a cool spot called Congregation Ale House. I had a fancy pretzel with cheese and the most amazing artichoke ever!
Next up - the Long Beach Aquarium! Even though it was crazily packed with people - we still had a great time. The girls especially loved playing in the water.
About a month ago Andrew's dad told us about an amazing photo exhibit opening in Los Angeles. The photographer, Vivian Maier, was a nanny in Chicago from 1950-1980 who took street photos in her spare time. At an antique auction, thousands of her negatives were bought by John Maloof. Also in the collection were countless rolls of film that had never even been developed. In a nutshell - he stumbled upon some of the greatest photographs of the 20th century! Unfortunately she passed away before realizing that her pictures would touch so many people.
Two weeks ago we planned on seeing the exhibit with Andrew's parents. Unfortunately, I didn't check to make sure the gallery was open on a Sunday - and sure enough they were closed! I felt absolutely awful since we were all looking forward to seeing the photographs together.
A few days ago I found myself driving by the gallery and decided that it was now or never. Thankfully Olive amused herself while I looked at all the work. What's even better than the amazing story is that the photographs are really quite remarkable.
I found these shoes at Zara awhile ago and fell in love with them - especially because they were on sale. What I didn't know was that Olive would love them too! Every morning she goes to her closet and takes them out and begs to have them put on her feet. Who knew she would take after mommy in the shoe fetish department??
It seems we have our very own rooster in the house. For the last few weeks Olive has been waking up at 6:30am on the dot! The good news is that she has also been sleeping through the night so the early wake up call isn't so bad.
Michelle is an amazing photographer and gave me a lesson in Lightroom yesterday. Basically the program lets you perfect your pictures with various tools. I'm still getting the hang of it but I'm hoping that in a week or two I'll be an expert! Can you see the difference?
